Am I A Candidate For Vision Correction?

If you are an adult, have myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism, you are likely to be a good candidate for LASIK laser eye surgery. The only certain way to find out if LASIK laser eye surgery is right for you is to have a comprehensive vision exam. At LASIK Vision Institute®, the exam is FREE!

Below are some general qualifications:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be in good general health
  • Have no health issues affecting your eyes
  • Have no active eye conditions which may affect healing
  • Have a stable vision prescription for at least one year

Your vision impairment is measured in units called diopters. The more nearsighted, farsighted or astigmatic you are, the higher your vision prescription in diopters. Thus, diopters represent the amount of vision correction you need to normalize your eyesight. A comprehensive vision exam is the only sure way to determine how much correction is necessary for your eyesight condition.

Is LASIK surgery right for me?

The best way to determine if you are a candidate for laser vision correction is to take advantage of our free consultation and have your eyes examined during the “pre-op” or pre-operative process. Several tests are done to thoroughly evaluate your eyes and a doctor will determine whether or not you are an ideal candidate.

Will I have 20/20 vision after my LASIK surgery?

Although some of our world renowned LASIK surgeons can provide you with data on the outcome of your surgery, no one can guarantee you perfect vision. However, we are pleased to announce that following laser vision correction, a vast majority of our patients are able to drive, play sports and watch TV without glasses! Our patients are overwhelmed with this life-changing event and enjoy referring their friends and family.

Is LASIK a risky procedure?

Like every medical procedure, there is always a possibility of risk. However, with laser vision correction surgery complications are very rare. At The LASIK Vision Institute®, we have some of the most experienced LASIK surgeons in the industry. The risk of sight threatening complications is less than 1% overall.

What are the side effects with LASIK or PRK surgery?

Temporary side effects following laser vision correction can include dryness of eyes, sensitivity to light or halos at night. During the healing process dry eyes can easily be treated by using artificial tears to keep the surface of your eyes moist. You are advised to wear sunglasses when outdoors following eye surgery to reduce light sensitivity and to protect your eyes. Halos or glare at night usually resolve within a few weeks and with Custom LASIK this side effect is virtually eliminated.

Unlike many other providers, The LASIK Vision Institute® offers a free, no obligation consultation.
